The Tree That Survived the Winter

I often find my most treasured books in secondhand stores. Not too long ago I found a little gem titled The Tree That Survived the Winter by Mary Fahy. It’s a simple story – a fable for adults – with simplistic artwork.

The story begins about a tree that wakes up one day to see what she has survived being removed from her comfort zone and endured a harsh winter. But then the tree begins blaming the sun for not being there when she needed it most. The sun explained to the tree that she survived because she was loved, and because she had kept faith that the sun would come back. As the tree grew, she was needed and loved by people, and each of them gave her different names.

The Tree That Survived the Winter is about having faith during difficult times. When I read the book, I had just survived a brutal “winter” myself, and took it as a sign that everything will always be okay in the end.

Amazing Soul and Spirit Drawings by Lisa Hunt

About two years ago I came across an artist’s website while I was searching for the symbolism of owls. Once I found what I was looking for, I didn’t stop there. The artist is Lisa Hunt, and her work is truly unique. She was offering customized Soul Drawings based on key words. Mine were: ocean, sun, water goddess, butterfly, animals. I was truly pleased when I received a nicely wrapped one-of-a-kind piece in the mail (the matting is my own) with a personal note.

Custom Spirit Drawing

Anxious to have another of Lisa’s brilliant works, I ordered another about a year later from her Spirit Drawings. This time I used the key words: Panther, crow, full moon, and tree. Once again, I was thrilled when I received this masterpiece. You can see both of these in a larger size on Lisa’s website:

Inspirational Poster: Looking Forward in Life

“If you think you have nothing to look forward to, remember that the sun will set and rise again each and every day.”  ~ Shannon Hart Hudnell

Have you ever taken a much-needed relaxing vacation that turned out to be one problem after another? Or perhaps you purchased the home or car of your dreams and realized it was a huge mistake?

Sometimes things don’t live up to our expectations. If something isn’t working out for us, then it may be bad timing or it could be the Universe telling us to reevaluate what it is we really want.  When things don’t go our way, that doesn’t mean we have nothing to look forward to, because the sun will still set and rise each day.
